4.75" x 7.5" colorlithographic view in fine condition . Soiling and staining from age , still an exceptional rare & early view from "Deck & Port by GH Colton in 1849 . The scene is a pre-gold rush waterfront hamlet serving the Ranchos of Alta California , with a customs house in the "plaza" , and a few businesses along the shores of Yerba Buena cove. A town actually named Yerba Buena at the time, not San Francisco. From a sketch by J.C.Ward and lithographed by Sarony before his partnership with Major in 1850.
