Rare survivor, folding edition of Webers county map for Contra Costa . Shows water districts newly created, Rancho lands still held, Township and Range Grid, competing power companies, wagon trails and irrigation districts, some wear at creases and folded corners, but an extremely nice edition essentially N.O.S.
Similar to the CF Weber folding issue with hand water color from the same period listed next door, this issue was uncommited stock from the estate of CF Weber , sold to WS Hutchinson in 1917, the SF based linen backing company who would have linen backed this map, although that never happened. The New/Old Stock from that purchase remained at WS Hutchinsons until their close of business and purchased by John P Coll in Dec of 1970, when it was still uncommitted stock and stored by Mr Coll in Berkeley until our purchase from him directly in 2018 .
An unusual state of a well respected group of maps, produced at the start of the 20th century , the Punnett Brother' maps of California counties are important markers for the goals and changes of the period, from establishing power companies to upgrading wagon trails into roads. Fine condition 20" x 28"
. 20 x 28" folio
